GRADUATION INFORMATION AND UPDATES

Below is the link to the OSU graduation information page.  If you have questions about the OSU ceremony the answers should be found there:

http://oregonstate.edu/commencement/

----

Department Graduation

The general program runs as follows:

The ceremonies are held outside of Gleeson Hall.  There are bleachers and chairs so there will be plenty of room for family and friends.

The program begins between 8:30 and 8:45 depending on how quickly everyone can get seated.  Coffee and other goodies are provided both before and after the ceremonies in the main lobby.

There will be speeches by the chair, the dean, faculty and students.  Awards will be given and each of you will be acknowledged before your guests.

There will then be a time for the taking of the group graduation picture and time for photos with family and friends.  During and after this time there is a reception with refreshments, poster displays and sharing in Gleeson 100.

The whole affair should be completed by 11:45 leaving plenty of time for you and your family to attend the OSU graduation beginning at 2:00.

If you need more information, please stop by the office.

RESEARCH

-----------------------------------------------------------

We have several funded undergraduate research positions available beginning near the end of this month.  We are looking for a diverse group of students so please distribute this notice as widely as possible.

Brief Description:

We seek a diverse group of students interested in climate sensor technology, hydrology, botany, environmental science, ecohydrology, and/or forest physiology.  The students will work closely with project PIs (Battery-free Wireless Sensors in Complex Terrain), graduate students, and other undergraduate REU students both in the laboratory setting and in the field (HJA Experimental Forest WS01).  The position lasts 10-weeks and includes a $400/week stipend.  Overall objectives of this work will focus on strong interdisciplinary relationships between engineers, hydrologists, atmospheric scientists, biologists and to work toward developing a publishable peer-reviewed paper as a final product.

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience in cutting edge sensor technology AND work with a great group of researchers!

INTERNSHIPS

Notes and Information from Tracy Rothwell J

------------------------------------------------------------

There is now an e-mail list that you can join to receive updates about internships. If you are interested in signing up for the list go to https://secure.engr.oregonstate.edu/mailman/listinfo/che-internship-info

What would you like to see included on the internship web page?

Over the summer I will be adding more general content to the internship website. I am thinking of adding sample resumes; information about how and when to apply for internships; and information from students who have had internships.  Please let me know what would be helpful to you if it was included on the site. E-mail me at Tracy.Rothwell@oregonstate.edu

Do you have an internship or REU arranged for this summer?  I need to compile a complete list of students with internships  If you haven’t already done so, please send me (tracy.rothwell@oregonstate.edu) an e-mail and tell me what company or institution you will be working for and your name.  If you replied to my earlier e-mail – thank you!

If you are a MECOP student or a Johnson Scholar you do not need to reply.

Thank you for your help.
