NEWS

The MECOP/CECOP Placement Event is scheduled for Tuesday, February 12, 2008, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.  Attendance is required at the event for all MECOP and CECOP students.  May we ask that you consider this schedule as you formulate your class syllabi for winter term?  Your flexibility will be appreciated if students' interview times conflict with class time.

We anticipate that as many as 600 company reps from the Pacific Northwest's engineering community will attend the Placement Event at OSU.  They will conduct  individual interviews to ensure that each of the nearly 400 MECOP/CECOP students is placed in an appropriate internship, matching industry projects with students' skills and career goals.  This careful placement of interns, coupled with excellent classroom teaching, can produce the most highly trained and educated engineers in the nation.  And since about 90% of MECOP/CECOP graduates find jobs in Oregon after graduation, we are strengthening Oregon's economy along with its professional skill base.

Thank you for continuing to partner with students and industry members to help make MECOP/CECOP the best internship program of its kind.  If you have questions about the Placement Event or about the Program in general, please feel free to contact either our Program Director, Gary Petersen, or me.

Many thanks from the MECOP office, and all the best this holiday season.

Only 1 in 10 students from low-income communities will graduate from college-- and you have the power to change this.

TEACHFORAMERICA Information Session

Thurs Jan 17: Teach For America Information Session. 6:30 pm, Memorial Union Room 211. Refreshments served. Teach For America's mission is to help eliminate educational inequity by enlisting our nation's most promising future leaders in this effort. We build a diverse, highly selective corps of top recent college graduates and professionals—individuals of all academic majors, career interests, and backgrounds—who commit two years to teach in low-income communities and become lifelong leaders in pursuit of educational excellence and equity. During their two years, corps members go above and beyond traditional expectations to ensure that children growing up in low-income areas have more of the opportunities they deserve. At the same time, the corps members themselves gain the conviction and insight necessary to be lifelong leaders for fundamental change, regardless of their professional sector. For more details, visit http://www.teachforamerica.org/mission/index.htm

DESIGN A SHIRT for the CBEE Club

Need a break from all that engineering homework? Design the CBEE club’s new t-shirt!

The club is currently holding a t-shirt design contest, and it wants YOU to submit your own original design. Your creativity's the only limit! The final design will be chosen by CBEE club students and will be printed on both t-shirts and sweatshirts. The winner will receive a free shirt.

The designs should relate to the fields of chemical, biological, and environmental engineering. Please submit your design to the Gleeson Office or email it to adlongm@onid.orst.edu by Wednesday, January 30th.

-----

This Wednesday the 16th we will be having an Engineering Entertainment Extravaganza (Movie Night). The show will begin at 6:00pm in Gleeson 200 and we will be playing Transformers, staring
Shia LaBeouf as high schooler who finds himself stuck in the middle of
war between the heroic Autobots and evil Decepticons, leaving the fate
of mankind hanging in the balance. Pizza will be provided!
Also, if you are interested in being a part of the CBEE Business Managing Committee or Fundraising Chair/Committee we will be holding elections within the next two weeks (it also looks very good
on the CBEE scholarship application ;) ). See you all on Wednesday
and have a great winter term!

Note: All meetings this term will be on even numbered weeks (2, 4, 6, 8, 10?), Wednesday at 6pm in GLSN 100.
