NEWS
-----------------------------------------------------
Wednesday, October 24th: Engineering Career Fair. 11 am–4 pm, CH2M Hill Alumni
Center. We have a record
number of engineering companies (close to 150) attending this fall, so this
is an opportunity not to be missed! For a list of registered companies, visit http://oregonstate.edu/career/fair/engineering.php.
Note: Some engineering employers will also be at the
university-wide fair (Oct 23). For that one, check the listing at http://oregonstate.edu/career/fair/university.php
----
The
Third Annual Engineering Ball is
going to take place on February 16, 2008 and they need a band for the event!
The Society of Women Engineers is interested in hiring a band, or multiple
bands, for the occasion. They would like the music at the Ball to be by other
engineers to highlight the many talents of the faculty and/or students. If
anybody is interested in playing at the Ball or would like more information
they would love to hear from you. Please contact Jennifer Coe, with the Society
of Women Engineers, at coeje@engr.orst.edu. Thank you very much and we hope to
see everybody there.

Dear OSU students, faculty, and staff:
Each year in the fall, influenza (flu) begins to spread
throughout the OSU community. The best
way to prevent the flu is to get a flu vaccination. This helps to protect a student’s educational
investment, prevent faculty and staff illness, as well as reduce risk to our
families and loved ones.
In order to provide convenient and affordable access to
flu vaccinations, OSU Student Health Services will be offering a flu vaccine
clinic for OSU students, faculty and staff on Monday and Tuesday, October 22 and 23, from 10:00 a.m.
to 3:00 p.m. or until supplies are gone.
This year flu vaccine will be given at the MU in the Joyce Powell Leadership Room on the main floor, not the SHS Plageman
Building. Volunteers and staff will be available to assist
you throughout the process.
The cost is $15 for students and $24 for faculty and
staff. The fee will be billed directly
to Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon or Samaritan Select if one of them
is your insurance provider. Otherwise,
faculty and staff may pay on site by cash or check and students may elect to
bill their OSU student accounts. Please
bring your insurance card and OSU ID card.
No appointment is necessary.
Please wear clothing that allows easy access to your arm in order to expedite
the vaccinations.
We hope to see you on Monday or Tuesday, October 22 or 23,
between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

CBEE Tutor & Study Groups -
Find-Ask Program
This program is headed by our
Tutor Coordinator, Kendra Seniow. It is designed to connect students with
each other in order to be more successful in school. Lists of volunteer
tutors, current study groups, and desired groups are posted in the Gleeson
Lounge (soon!) and online at http://groups.engr.oregonstate.edu/AIChE/tutoring/
. Sign up on to connect with your classmates (whether it be for a
class in the school
of CBEE or
not).
Tutoring -
Freshmen and Sophomores, need a little help? Contact one of these
volunteers for some guidance in chemical engineering, math, physics, or
anything else.
Tutors - Juniors and Seniors we
need you! Sign up to help your fellow students in subjects
with which you feel comfortable. This is a great opportunity for
community service and to get to know your peers while learning the material
better yourself!
Study Groups - Study
groups can be a huge help in doing homework and preparing for tests.
There is a list for current groups and desired groups. Sign up on one of
these to connect with your classmates (whether it be for a class in the school of CBEE or not).
If you have questions, comments,
or suggestions (such as a special session specific to a certain upcoming test
or skill) send them to Kendra (seniowk@onid.orst.edu).

Anheuser-Busch will be visiting OSU on Tuesday, October 23rd. They will
hold a mini-info session that evening at 5:30 in room 238 Wiegand Hall...pizza
will be provided as well. Michael Poley, Brewmaster at the Fairfield, CA
brewery will also be lecturing in FST 251 earlier that day (10 - 11:20 in 115

for professional positions as well as interns and co-ops. This is an
opportunity you do not want to pass up.
If you wish to be
considered for an interview, please e-mail your resume and cover letter to Linda.Dunn@oregonstate.edu
by next Tuesday, October 16th. You can address your cover letter to
Michael Poley, Senior Resident Brewmaster, Anheuser-Busch. If you have
questions about internships, you can talk with Krista Mac Pherson (macpherk@onid.oregonstate.edu)
- she worked in Fairfield
this past summer.

We have a
new site up which will enable students to volunteer
for COE events. Besides helping the College, volunteering is an excellent
way for students to get connected to the College, to meet people throughout the
College, to develop leadership skills, and to have fun. Our students are coming
from high schools that often have community service requirements, so they are
looking for ways to continue service.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE INFO
A
preliminary schedule of events, online registration and
PDF registration forms, are posted at: http://www.aiche.org/StudentConference/
Below is vital information regarding the National Conference. Please read thoroughly.
We will be driving up together in vans leaving Friday morning at 5am and
arriving back in Corvallis in time to get to your classes on Monday (not as bad
as it sounds). We will be staying together in hotels paid for by CBEE (most
likely), so all you are likely to pay for is the $65 registration fee online.
Pre-Conference Required meeting:
Friday 10/26/2007 4pm GLSN 100. You
MUST be there in order to go to Salt
Lake. No exceptions.
Vans/Drivers
We need EVERYONE who has a valid driver's
license to be certified to drive the vans. It's a long trip and we want to have
options for drivers so people don't get tired (this is NOT optional).
Please go to this website (if you haven't done so already) http://www.business_services.oregonstate.edu/motorpool/rental/vanrental.cfm
and click on "Open Full Screen Video Window" and watch Motorpool's
movie on van driving safety. Take the safety test after watching the video.
Hint: remember all of the numerical values that they say during the test
because that is what most of the questions ask about.
After you pass the test, go see Karen Kelly in the CBEE office (GLSN 100 level)
and she will give you a driving form to fill out.
Even if you have already done this previously for other conferences, please
take the test again and filly out the form with Karen just in case!!!
This should be completed prior to attending the pre-conference required meeting.

already completed the survey - thank you.
If not
please follow this link https://secure.engr.oregonstate.edu/survey/public/survey.php?name=BioE_CHE_ENVE_Intern_Survey
and complete it as soon as possible. We use the employer information to thank
the employers and we’d like to get this done soon.

The OSU Engineering Career Fair is Wed. Oct.24 at the CH2M Hill Alumni
Center from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. The following companies that will be attending the
fair are interested in CBEE interns. http://cbee.oregonstate.edu/students/internships/CareerFairCompanyList.pdf
Plan to attend the Career Fair with lots of copies of your resume. Dress nicely
and neatly but suits are not necessary.
Never been to a career fair
before? Not sure what it is? Read on…
The Engineering Career Fair is
hosted by OSU Career Services. Many employers come to talk to students who are
interested in internships or full time employment. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY TO TALK TO EMPLOYERS AND START SEARCHING FOR
AN INTERNSHIP. Each employer has a booth with several representatives
working at it. You stop by and briefly talk to a representative, if the company
sounds interesting, and they are interested in students in your major and at
your level, you give them a copy of your resume. Ask them what the next step
is: do you also need to apply on-line, will they contact you if they are
interested in interviewing you, is there someone you should follow up with etc?
Thank the representative politely for their time. And repeat the process at the
next booth. It would be good to review the employer list in the link above and
figure out what companies you are most interested in, you can follow the links
to their website and learn a little bit about the companies you are possibly
interested in.
