Students will be selected from applicants who meet these criteria:

  •     A girl or a member of an ethnic minority.
  •     A present high school freshman, sophomore or junior
  •     A student able to participate for the entire week of the program

APPLICATION PROCESS

SESEY 2009 will be the week of July 12-17, 2009. Completed applications post-marked by May 30, 2009 will be considered. Notification of acceptance will be made by June 5, 2009 or sooner. Early application is encouraged due to limited facilities. A completed application includes three items:

1.   Application Form
  • Word Document
  • PDF format. If your browser doesn't already support PDF documents, a free copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader can be downloaded from Adobe.

2.   Handwritten essay in your best writing style describing yourself and your family. Include information about your activities, hobbies, awards and a statement about why you want to attend the SESEY program (1-2 pages).

3.   School transcript of grades for the previous year and first semester of this year. Your guidance counselor can provide this for you.

After printing out and completing the application form, send it with your completed essay, and school transcript to:

Want to get involved teaching with the SESEY program?

Several high school teachers will be selected to participate in a concurrent program involving the development of high-school level modules related to science and engineering. Participating teachers are expected to incorporate this material into their courses the following academic year. Each selected teacher will be allowed to nominate one student from her or his school to participate in the student portion of the SESEY program. Note: Interested high school science teachers should contact the program directors individually.

TEACHER APPLICATION

FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS
The program fee of $150 per student includes room and board. Assistance, including full and partial scholarships, will be available upon request. Assistance is awarded based on need. Parents/Guardians are responsible for the student's travel to and from Corvallis.
