Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
PNNL is a world leader in environmental science research. The Laboratory has built an international reputation in environmental sciences through fundamental studies in chemistry, biology, computer sciences, and a wide range of other fields. This expertise has been developed through an emphasis on understanding complex systems, from molecular to global scales. Research opportunities at the Laboratory for students include appointments in atmospheric science and global change, computational sciences, experimental chemistry, marine sciences, molecular biology, environmental studies, remediation, environmental microbiology, wildlife and fisheries biology, materials research, process science and engineering, economics and political science. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science funds the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). SULI provides 10-16 week summer and semester research internships to undergraduate students in the areas of science, math, engineering, technology, and science policy. Each student is assigned to a Laboratory staff scientist in a specific area of research related to the student's interests and academic major.A series of educational enrichment and social activities are provided to enhance the internship experience.
Qualifications :To be eligible, applicants: Must be currently enrolled full time as an undergraduate student and completed at least one college semester. Students who will complete their undergraduate degree prior to starting their internship may apply( see website for details); Must be 18 years or older at the start of the program; Must be a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien; Must have earned a high school diploma or GED; Must have completed less than two SULI internships already; Must have coverage under a health insurance plan. It is the responsibility of each participant to secure insurance coverage before arriving at the appointment site.
