Former Linus Pauling Chair

Phil Harding currently serves as principal materials scientist in sustainable packaging for Amazon. He was previously the Linus Pauling Chair in Chemical Engineering and associate school head at Oregon State University's School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering. He brings 15 years of industrial and business experience and 12 years of academic experience to his industrial and academic liaison roles. He previously worked in the oil, pulp and paper, and microelectronic industries with a history of responsibilities including process engineering, research and development, product reliability, and developing worldwide manufacturing and research strategy. His previously served as a master technologist for Hewlett-Packard Co. While at Oregon State from 2007 to 2019, he managed 175 unique chemical engineering senior projects partnering with 35 different companies and external organizations. He is connected to hundreds of engineering alumni. He is the winner of the Carter and Austin Paul teaching awards, is a certified professional engineer, and holds 15 patents. He holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from Oregon State University, Georgia Tech, and the University of Washington, respectively.
