Undergraduate Research Opportunities for CBEE Students

Participating in an undergraduate research program is highly recommended if you are thinking about going to graduate school . This valuable experience will give you an edge in applying for graduate school, research fellowships, and job applications. Almost all Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) internships are paid and many offer travel and housing assistance.

Please be aware of the starting date for REU's. Some are designed for students at semester schools and start before the end of Spring Quarter. Often programs can accomodate students on a different schedule, but be sure to contact the program administrator to ask about start date flexibility before applying to an REU with incompatible start dates.

These slides are a great introduction to REUs in general put together by Dr. Andrew Greenberg, Director REU in Chemistry and REU in Nanotechnology, University of Wisconsin-Madison. One thing does not hold true for OSU students - PLEASE DO apply for programs here on campus, in spite of the advice not to apply to your home university. Also there are REUs that are looking for students interested in medical schools so don't think you shouldn't apply if that is your career path.
