Interests and Research
Professor
Wood's primary research focus is on the description of mass, momentum,
and energy transport in natural and engineered multiscale
systems. He also specializes in subsurface hydrology;
bioremediation and biochemical processes; water and wastewater
treatment; and sustainable design and engineering. he maintains
an active interest in the history and philosophy of science, and on
understanding the limits of scientific knowledge.
Brian Wood's current research projects include:
(1) Experimental
and theoretical work examining the transport of microorganisms in
porous media from a multiscale perspective (NSF)..
(2) Theoretical
work on the fundamentals of describing reactive solute transport in
highly heterogeneous porous media systems (NSF).
(3) Investigations of how biofilm
structure affect solute transport and reactions in biofilmporous media
systems (DOE).
